Twenty-five years of this work

About Sara Alavi

I did not come to this work through a textbook. I came to it through my own body, and I have been doing it, on myself first, ever since.

Sara Alavi

How I Got Here

I immigrated to the United States at fourteen. The weight of living between two cultures set off a deep depression, and by seventeen I had already begun working on myself in therapy. I have been doing this work, on myself first, ever since.

My yoga journey began in 1996, during one of the most challenging times in my life. I lost sight in my left eye due to Multiple Sclerosis (MS), accompanied by extreme anxiety and stress, symptoms of PTSD. I turned to yoga and meditation as a way to cope and began practicing regularly. Remarkably, my eyesight returned within five months, and I credit my spiritual practice for this profound healing.

In 2001, I became a certified yoga teacher, driven by a passion to help others heal as I had. Over the years, I have specialized in addressing trauma and breaking negative patterns such as anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, feelings of unworthiness, hypervigilance, and other PTSD-related symptoms. My professional certifications include being a trauma-informed Yoga Therapist, Hypnotherapist, Advanced Yoga Nidra Therapist, Trauma-Informed EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) Practitioner, Reiki Energy Healing Master level, and Delores Cannon's Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique practitioner. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Business Science from Oklahoma City University in 1985 as well.

What I wish someone had told me

You Don't Have to Spend Decades Searching Like I Did

If there is one thing I wish someone had taught me years ago, it is this: the sooner you understand how emotional wounds, trauma, stress and early life experiences have shaped you, the sooner you can stop suffering unnecessarily.

Like many of my clients, I spent years searching for answers. I read the books, attended countless trainings, explored many healing modalities, talk therapy, nervous system healing, yoga classes and retreats. Because I did not have someone to help me break through into myself, I kept suffering while I searched.

One of the greatest discoveries I made is that we do not experience life exactly as it is. We experience it through the beliefs, emotional wounds and survival patterns we developed early in life. By the time we are around nine years old, most of that programming is in place. So in a way, many of us are a nine-year-old in an adult body, still trying to find our true selves.

As Carl Jung wisely said, "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate." That truth transformed my own life. The more I understood my patterns, fears, beliefs and emotional wounds, the less they controlled me.

Most people do not need more information. They need a different understanding of themselves. You cannot heal by judging yourself. You heal by understanding yourself.

I do not want you to spend decades searching the way I did. I want you to begin living the life your heart has been longing for, now.

Not talk, not poses

Why My Approach Is Different

When people hear that I am a yoga teacher, they picture poses. The poses matter, but what they really do is sustain you on your path. The healing itself comes from changing the patterns in your mind and in your life, and from being accountable to someone while you do it.

That is the part I bring. My roots are in the Vedic teachings, the ancient scriptures yoga comes from, and I have done every piece of this work on myself first. I mentor and coach as much as I guide. You leave each session with something to practise, and I hold you to it, because the change happens in the days between our sessions, not only in the hour we spend together.

I do not work with anybody long term. Most women work with me for three to six months. We go to the root, you learn to respond to life instead of reacting to it, and you leave with a practice that is yours.

Many of the women I see have been in therapy for most of their lives, and some are therapists themselves. They do the work with me because they meet a woman who has been there, done that, and now lives with peace, calm, health and joy. I have walked this road, and I walk it with you.

Healing Through Yoga Therapy

In 2009, I founded Yoga Home of Therapeutics, a yoga studio dedicated to providing healing through yoga therapy. For over six years, I taught yoga therapy at the Oklahoma City VA Hospital, working closely with veterans to address trauma and stress. Currently, I work as a Yoga Therapist at Oakwood Springs Behavioral Health Hospital and manage my online yoga therapy studio, where I work with private clients and offer Healing and Gentle Live Zoom Yoga Therapy class memberships on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:00 to 10:00 am CST.

Across 25 years of service, I have helped thousands of people move beyond anxiety, trauma, emotional pain, chronic stress, unhealthy relationships and limiting beliefs.

My mission is to guide individuals toward an increased sense of peace and accelerated healing. I help my clients access deeper levels of consciousness, free from the distractions of the mind, where they can glimpse their true nature. This space becomes a sanctuary where they can safely address and resolve what may be hindering growth or manifesting as physical discomfort or illness.

I am not a talk therapist, and my work is not endless weekly sessions. Many of my clients love their therapists; some are therapists themselves. What I offer is different: root-cause work with a beginning and an end.

My Book, My Journey, My Mission

I am thrilled to share that I have written a book, a simple yet informative manual that delves into the whys, the hows and the profound importance of healing our past. In it, I share my own personal journey through childhood and adult traumas, along with the steps I took to heal and transform. My hope is that this book inspires, motivates and empowers you to invest in your healing and discover true joy and happiness.

It is an honor and a blessing to work with each person I meet. I am committed to doing everything in my power to help, encourage and support you every step of the way. It would be my privilege to work with you and your loved ones, witnessing your relationships, minds, bodies and spirits heal, renew and thrive.

Namaste,
With much love from my heart to yours,
Sara Alavi

Integrative Healing You Can Trust

For twenty-five years I have supported women in healing trauma, anxiety and nervous system dysregulation. My work brings together professional training, spiritual depth and lived experience, in a space that is both compassionate and effective.

She's very funny, and so human, comfortable to be with, generous and accepting. It all allows you to soften into her work.

After two weeks with Sara I have acquired a positive change in my thought processes, my physical body and my relationships with others. The healing process came through a combination of therapy, which I hate, and yoga which I love. This has allowed my mind to become open to the positive aspects of life. I finally have found a community of caring and genuine individuals. My deepest gratitude to Sara Alavi.

I have never had an experience where so much was revealed so quickly. Through hypnosis, EFT, and relaxing meditation, I found a path forward. The knowledge that I am healing, and have tools to use on the journey, I owe to Sara's process.

Questions I Am Asked Most

Are you a therapist?

No, and I am glad to say so plainly. I am an Integrative Trauma Healing Practitioner. I am not a talk therapist and my work is not endless weekly sessions. Many of my clients love their therapists, and some of my clients are therapists themselves. What I offer is different: root-cause work with a beginning and an end.

How long does working with you take?

About three to six months. The work has a destination, and I will tell you honestly when you have arrived. I do not work with anybody long term.

What are your credentials?

I have been doing this work for twenty-five years. I became a certified yoga teacher in 2001, and my certifications include trauma-informed Yoga Therapist, Hypnotherapist, Advanced Yoga Nidra Therapist, Trauma-Informed EFT Practitioner, Reiki Energy Healing Master, and Dolores Cannon Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique practitioner. I founded Yoga Home of Therapeutics in 2009, taught yoga therapy at the Oklahoma City VA Hospital for over six years, and I currently work as a Yoga Therapist at Oakwood Springs Behavioral Health Hospital, a psychiatric hospital, where I use these same methods.

Can I work with you while I am seeing a doctor or a therapist?

Yes, and many people do. Physicians and therapists refer people to me, and I work as a Yoga Therapist inside a psychiatric hospital, Oakwood Springs, using these same methods. I am not a replacement for the care you are already in, and I will never ask you to choose. What I do sits underneath talk: the body and the nervous system, which is often the part that has not been reached yet.

What is trauma-informed yoga therapy?

It is yoga used as therapy rather than exercise, shaped around what your nervous system can actually take on a given day. It reconnects the body and the nervous system so they can release what the mind alone cannot reach. Nothing is pushed, and you never have to explain everything before we begin.

What is EFT tapping?

EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique, is a gentle tapping practice on specific points of the body while you bring a difficult feeling to mind. It calms the nervous system and softens the emotional charge that is being held in the body. I am certified in trauma-informed EFT, which means we work at a pace that keeps you resourced rather than overwhelmed.

What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is a guided practice that takes you into the state between waking and sleeping, where your body can reach a level of restoration ordinary sleep cannot. You lie down and are guided. There is nothing to get right. It is one of the most effective practices I know for a body that has been holding on for a long time.

Who do you work with?

My private work is with women, most often women who have already tried a great deal. Many have been in therapy for years, understand their patterns well, and still wake up anxious. Others come through a rupture: divorce, grief, caregiving, burnout. Others come because the body is speaking first, through insomnia, chronic anxiety, autoimmune imbalance or illness. You are not starting over, and you are not broken. You have adapted. My classes, workshops and Reiki certification training are open to everyone.
